In 1609, the original d'Halve Maen sailed to the New World under Captain Henry Hudson, whose voyage of discovery would lead directly to the establishment of New Netherland, a geographically vast Dutch colony that stretched from Delaware Bay, through the Hudson River, and on to the Connecticut River. Following Hudson's expedition, d'Halve Maen spent another decade as part of the vast fleet of the Dutch East India Company, working in the Spice Islands (modern Indonesia) and ports of call throughout southeastern Asia.
In 1989, Dr. Andrew Hendricks, founder of the New Netherland Museum, oversaw the construction of the Replica Ship Half Moon to commemorate the voyages of the original vessel and the Dutch influence on the New World. More than 20 years later, the Half Moon is still sailing the waters of New Netherland. Join Dr. Hendricks, Captain Reynolds, and our special guests as we set sail to experience a few days of maritime history.
