River Science: Cloud Cover

These cloud formations affect our work on the Half Moon in several ways. First, they can serve as an indicator of incoming weather patterns. Overcast skies can also make celestial navigation nearly impossible. On this voyage, a cold front rolled in heavy cloud clover in Day Three, forcing some resourceful thinking for the celestial navigation team. Fortunately, however, the clouds broke again as we reached Hell Gate, resulting in only a temporary hiccup in their plans.
