This then led to an interesting debate over whether or not using the four-lead block-and-tackle to lift yourself would be as advantageous as having someone else pull the leads. As their demonstration showed, pulling yourself up is in fact considerably more efficient that being pulled up by a third party, because the user him- or herself effectively becomes a fifth lead in the system.
