Project Summary

Students: Donna, Dustin, Evelyn, Gabriella, Jeannine, Joseph B., Joseph D., Nathan, Sandy, Timothy, Zack.

Senior Advisor: Jennifer Reilly, Ellen Roth, and Michele Soulis.

Project Goals: To determine the salinity gradiant and turbidity in the New Netherland waterways as the Half Moon traveled from Newburgh, NY to New Haven, CT.

Materials: Refractometer, canvas bucket, GPS unit, sample vials, distilled water.

Conclusion: The team determined that both salinity and turbidity decreased as the Half Moon approached the sea, then maintained fairly steady numbers (salinity being measured in parts per thousand) as the Half Moon made its way through saltwater Long Island Sound.
