4th Entry, 1718 Hours: We're anchored just off the Palisades, opposite Spuyten Duyvil Creek, which connects the Hudson River to the Harlem River. (Henry Hudson Bridge, spanning the mouth of the Spuyten Duyvil, is visible in the background). Named by the Dutch colonists of New Amsterdam for its turbulent currents, the waterway's name translates as "Devil's Spout," "Devil's Whirlpool," or more loosely, "Spouting Devil." While the Half Moon rests at anchor, the students turn their focus on collecting data for their projects.
