In truth, the tracking of celestial objects is as much shipcraft as river science. In 1609 (and indeed, for thousands of years before that and to this very day), celestial navigation was a crucial aspect of nautical life. On this Voyage of Discovery, the research team of Andrew, Hannah, Kevon, and Rachael studied celestial tracking for their presentation project, measuring the height of the sun as it arced through the sky. The same techniques used in their project could also be used to track other celestial bodies, such as the North Star or the moon (pictured, rising over Duck Island Roads on Day One).
