Project Summary
Students: Cameron S., Evan, Kelvin, and Luseldi.
Senior Advisor: Roberto Gonzalez.
Hypothesis: As the Half Moon approaches the Connecticut River from Long Island Sound, salinity levels will decrease.
Materials: Refractometer, canvas bucket, GPS unit, sample vials, distilled water.
Conclusion: The salinity gradient was consistently high at Duck Island Roads and elsewhere on Long Island Sound, but rapidly plummeted to 1 part per thousand shortly after the Half Moon entered the Connecticut River, remaining consistently low as the ship continued upriver.
