1st Entry, 1105 Hours: As we continue our eastward course into Long Island Sound, the shoreline retreats to the horizon or beyond, in the case of Long Island itself. Since we're favoring the northern coastline, Long Island is visible only as a mirage-like shape seemingly hovering above the southern horizon. Out here, it's just us and distantly visible ferries, sailboats, and shipping vessels. However, the lookout needs to stay as alert as ever, keeping a sharp eye out for tiny buoys attached to lobster or crab pots. Were we accidentally run over, the lobster pot's anchoring line could snag our propellor.
