River Science: Cloud Cover

As a component of the Half Moon's Deck Log and AMVER SEAS observations, students are encouraged to observe the cloud cover above us — which often varies wildly over the course of a given Voyage of Discovery.

Students learn how to determine the percentage of cloud cover in the sky, and how to identify distinct cloud formations, such as curling cirrus clouds, flat stratus clouds, or puffy cumulus clouds.

Cloud conditions on this leg of the voyage were much the same as the first, with largely overcast skies, but fortunately the skies cleared in time for our celestial tracking experiments.
