William Reynolds, Ship's Captain

William Reynolds: Ship's Captain

Captain William Reynolds has been captain of the Half Moon and Director of the New Netherland Museum since 1998. Before coming to the Half Moon, he captained numerous seagoing vessels, both historical and industrial. His background also includes training and work in the environmental sciences. He currently lives with his family in Selkirk, NY, and is looking forward to seeing the new student crew meet the challenges this Voyage of Discovery places before them.

John Boudreau

John Boudreau

John Boudreau will be a sophomore at Hamilton College this fall, and plans to pursue a degree in history — with any luck, he'll wind up back on the Half Moon. He has truly enjoyed being part of such a close-knit organization, even if that means going by a different name to avoid confusion.

Kevin Boyle

Kevin Boyle

This is Kevin Boyle's third season volunteering on the Half Moon. Outside of life on the ship he attends Cornell University.

Kelly Falvey

Kelly Falvey

Kelly Falvey is a Social Studies teacher at the Connecticut River Academy. She loves traveling, especially with students. Because her summers are filled with swimming in Long Island Sound, she's eager to explore Connecticut's insland waterways for a change.

Bob Fournier

Bob Fournier

Bob Fournier is a retired firefighter of 35 years. He loves the outdoors, hiking, camping, skiing, boating, and kayaking. Bob is also an accomplished cook, having won Emeril Lagasse's Firehouse Cook Off in 1998.

Rich Fournier

Rich Fournier

Rich Fournier is a retired science teacher from the East Hartford school system. He grew up in East Hartford and currently resides in Tolland, CT.

Since retirement, Rich has become a bit of a history buff. Both he and his wife have done a number of trail rides out west, which included a portion of the Oregon Trail via horseback and covered wagon. Rich has also retraced the Lewis & Clark Corps of Discovery from St. Louis to Oregon via an elder hostel program.

Bob Hansen

Bob Hansen

Ship's mate Bob Hansen started sailing on the Hudson on the Hudson River Sloop Clearwater; later, on two engineless sloops. Since the 1990s, he has served as a volunteer and mate on the schooners Spirit of Massachusetts and Ernestina, as well as other vessels.

Having recently retired from a career as a self-styled "bureaucrat" with the New York State government, Mr. Hansen has now turned his attention to serving as second-in-command on board the Half Moon.

John W. Mangrum

John W. Mangrum

Originally hailing from the suburbs of Philadelphia, PA, John W. Mangrum holds one of the most anachronistic positions the crew of a 17th-century wooden sailing ship could imagine: the Half Moon's webmaster. Seldom seen in front of the camera, the self-titled "Ship's Chronicler" oversees the daily updates to this website during our voyages. A roleplaying game designer in a past life, Mr. Mangrum has been sailing on board the Half Moon since the summer of 2004. What started as a simple, impromptu dockside tour of the ship has since turned into a life of adventure.

Grant Prime

Grant Prime

Grant Prime teaches 5th grade at Taconic Hills Middle School. Mr. Prime has been involved with historical re-enactments for more than thirty years, and has been bringing his enthusiasm to the Half Moon each summer since 1998. He has completed his Master's in Elementary Education, and was a contributor to the New Netherland Museum's 4th- and 7th-grade curriculum materials.

Jennifer Reilly

Jennifer Reilly

Jennifer Reilly teaches science at Connecticut River Academy and is an experienced sailor on the Half Moon crew. Her early Half Moon voyages prepared her for a previous career as a professional rigger on ships for Hollywood. She lives in Connecticut with her husband and the two cutest babies in the world, both of whom have also spent time sailing on board.

Lisandra Rosario

Lisandra Rosario

Hello! Not only is this Lisandra Rosario's first time staying on a boat, but it's her first time staying on a boat for a week, so it's definitely an experience. She is super excited to be sharing this with such amazing CTRA students. Up to now, she has learned about knots, flags, and communication codes. She has yet to learn the ship parts. She doesn't worry; she has time. Who knows? She might be able to get the students to learn some Spanish boat terms.

Sean Shoemaker

Sean Shoemaker

Ahoy! Sean Shoemaker is an intern with the New Netherland Museum. He is currently in pursuit of a Bachelor's degree in Journalism at SUNY Albany. His interests include music, photography, video, soccer, and long walks on the beach.

Woody Woodworth

Woody Woodworth

Woody Woodworth has a home in Schenectady, NY. He has worked as a professional photographer for 27 years. He joined the Half Moon in 1998 and is best known for keeping the ship's head working.

Jay Pocius

Jay Pocius

Jay Pocius is a Connecticut resident and longtime Half Moon crew member who maintains the New Netherland Museum's computer database. Mr. Pocius assisted with resupplying the ship during our brief time in New Haven.

In addition, we'd like to thank all of the departing crew members of the East Hartford-New Haven Transit Voyage, who assisted with the crew transfer: John Boudreau, Kevin Boyle, Ellie Chapaitis, Jeff Daniels, Vincent de Leeuw, Carolyn Niehaus, and Nick Reynolds.
